Durango Parks and Recreation has established a wonderful river trail along the Animas River. However, the beautiful Animas riverfront is underutilized in the downtown corridor. Other cities, like Pueblo, Salida and Breckenridge, have successfully developed thriving and vibrant arts/culture venues along their river walks. We believe it is important for Durango to take advantage of all that an "in-town river walk" can provide to this community.

Strengthen exisiting arts and science organizations.
Generate vibrant economic development.
STEAM Park offers numerous benefits to the local community:
Enhances cultural quality of community by creating a more professional venue for the Arts.
Provides greater educational programs for both adults and children.
Stimulates the economy for small and large local businesses.
Vitalizes the Animas riverfront, creating an attractive destination for those using the river trail.
Enhances the quality of life for Durango and Four Corners residents.
Creates an exciting destination attraction for tourists and visitors to the local community.
A conceptual sketch of the potential site (see below) shows everything in a park-like setting that would enhance Durango's downtown attractiveness. It would also provide various activities for visitors while stimulating the local economy and increasing revenues for other businesses in Durango.
· an outdoor amphitheater for
theatrical and musical performances
· indoor/outdoor interactive science exhibits
· class rooms
· art galleries
· kiosks for ice cream
· coffee vendors
· an outdoor cafe
· and much more
